I first met Caitlin and Mick for placenta encapsulation, I dropped off her capsules at their home only to be greeted by 2 gorgeous beagle boys! Having 2 beagles myself, I knew I had to photograph this beautiful family. I came back a couple of days later and hung out with them, capturing the space of curiosity, discovery and all the newness a baby brings.
For many couples dogs are like their first kids (they aren’t called fur babies for no reason) I often wonder what pups think with their humans bring home a baby - life changes for everyone!
The first few days at home are both magical and a bit scary at the same time. You finally get to slow down and really absorb the details of your new baby - hospitals are busy places! But at the same time, you’re on your own, just the two of you and your little baby, figuring it out for yourselves! I love the way parents look at their babies, totally mesmerized, drawn right in to every little noise they make, the rest of the world disappears!
I really love capturing these early days, baby features are still so tiny, you can stare at the all day long and it’s not a day wasted! Pregnancy seems to take an eternity, they arrive but only stay little for a flash in time, yet the photos remain to look back on and see how much they’ve grown - no longer fitting in the crook of your arm.
Isn’t this nursery to-die-for! Cailtin is an interior designer and stylist - totally shows!
A newborn session with me is super relaxed, we’ll just hang out in your bedroom or living room, lots of baby snuggles, no pressure to ‘perform’ and have a totally sound asleep baby, no cheesy smiles at the camera or uncomfortable poses - just you and your sweet babe, tangled up in your babymoon bubble, loving each other!
