Sunshine Coast Family Documentary Sessions
For many people when they think about family photos they have a mental image of everyone sitting up straight and looking into the camera with a big smile. And while those are nice, what feelings do they evoke in you, the viewer? They have nice teeth?? Their clothes all match?? What about the mother in the photos, what does she feel when she sees herself in these images? 'Oh my goodness that was stressful, no one would get dressed, baby was cracking it, toddler just wanted to eat'.
Now, take a look at this mother, what do you think she feels? 'Look at my gorgeous hubby playing blocks with our baby', 'Oh remember our baby used to sit like that, that was so cute!', "that was such a fun afternoon playing with the kids and spending time together' Not to mention, mum is actually IN the photos! Not the one behind the camera trying to make memories for her kids in years to come.
Living on the Sunshine Coast, we have an amazing lifestyle, super laid back, lots of outdoor living, why not have memories created at home? Bonus - you don't have to pack kids in the car and travel!
So why choose to have family photos at home doing everyday things? Do I really want to remember my 'real life', the messy house, the toys, the mundane? Well believe it or not, these photos will mean more to you than you can imagine - when your baby stands head and shoulders taller than you, you bet! When you see that favourite straggly blanket your toddler HAD to take everywhere or there were tears, yep! That pulls at the heartstrings all right!
Lifestyle photos in your own home are like creating a time capsule, your kids will see the house they grew up in, what their bedroom looked like, their favourite toys and books. As parents, you think you'll remember this but unfortunately you don't (take it from a mum to a 20 & 17 year old!)
Who knew the afternoon snack would be a perfect time to capture tender moments between father and son. Chubby fingers and toes, gooie apple face - um overies calm down......
But guess what, we still take the family group photo - but this time with heart!
What kind of activities do you like doing together? Reading, cooking? Have you got a cool cubby house or tree house? I mean every kid loves jumping on the bed, lets do that (seriously this gives mum and dad permission to do it too - I guarantee these are the biggest smiles you'll see!!)
So next time you're planning family photos, consider a documentary session (or lifestyle whatever you want to call it) but step outside the 'family photos' box - you never know what magic might unfold!
Do you want these for yourself? Please get in touch, I'd love to give you this gift!
