Guest Blog Post by Lauren from Bonnibuns Eco Cloth Nappies
Does the thought of filling the earth with plastic nappies via landfill make you feel uneasy? But the thought of smelly nappy buckets, folding terry toweling nappies (What! Who even remembers how to do that?) or leaking nappies not really sound appealing either?
I recently spoke to Lauren from Bonnibuns and here's what she said about using MCN's (modern cloth nappies)
Cloth nappies have changed a lot since the days of terry toweling flats.
The traditional toweling cloth nappies are still available but many new parents are choosing the modern cloth nappy which is becoming increasingly popular.
While everyone's reasons vary many people choose to use cloth nappies to save money, help reduce landfill, to keep nasty chemicals off baby's skin and also because they are absolutely adorable!
How to care for a modern cloth nappy
Place any solids into the toilet. Hand rinse nappy and store in a dry nappy bucket/container. DO NOT SOAK Wash nappies on a normal (cold/warm – up to 50 degrees) cycle with recommended detergent quantity for load size. Adding an extra rinse cycle will help prevent any detergent build up. Line dry nappies with the inner facing the sun for best results. Inserts/boosters may be tumble dried on a low heat however it isn’t recommended long term as it can shorten the life of your nappies.
What are MCN's made of?
Bonnibuns Rapid Dry All-In-2 nappies are made with a high quality PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) outer layer and a hard wearing suede cloth inner. The moisture is wicked away to the suede cloth topped, snap in, bamboo trifold giving you 6 layers of absorbency! Closures on your nappy are snaps. Snaps are easy to use and allow adjustment of the nappy from 4kgs through to 18kgs! PUL is a laminated fabric which breathes. It makes the shell waterproof and prevents leaks.
So modern nappies are one size fits all?
Yep, sure are!
The world of cloth nappies can be daunting but at Bonnibuns we have tried to keep our nappies very simple to use and care for.
With no soaking required all you need to do is simply rinse, wash, dry and snap your nappies together.
Bonnibuns have a range of modern cloth nappies (day and night), swim nappies, wet bags, change mats, biodegradable liners and cloth wipes available.
