I think one of the most nerve wracking tasks for partners is the drive to hospital during labour! Women worry about their own comfort and managing their surges/contractions while driving - ‘do I sit in the front or kneel in the back’, ‘do I wear a seat belt?’ And they also worry about their partner, how will they be feeling etc etc.Read More
I will just start by saying, our recent birth experience was amazing!!
In my younger years I was actually somebody who didn’t think they wanted children at all. I think this strongly stemmed from my fear of pregnancy and childbirth that came from growing up in a society that makes birth sound so terrible. When I met my husband he assured me that he would someday like to have children and so I spent the following few years becoming almost obsessed with researching pregnancy and birth.Read More
One of the common reasons women choose to encapsulate their placenta is to help prevent postpartum (postnatal) depression, baby blues or other postpartum mental health concerns. Many of my enquiries state this as a reason they’re considering it, my reply is often lengthy and considered. So I decided to put my thoughts into a post so I can share it with everyone. My answer is always, yes it can BUT……. there’s more layers of thought needed…..Read More
I’m so blessed to work alongside some amazing people here on the Sunshine Coast and Sandie is one of those people. Sandie is a midwife and a HypnoBirthing Practitioner and recently her partner, Carol, had their first baby - little Nyah. I was so delighted to photograph this beautiful, loving family just days after her arrival.Read More
If a baby is born outside of hospital - is it an emergency? Last week baby Ayla decided to be born on route to hospital, there was no panic, surprise yes, but no panic. Our local media spread this story far and wide yesterday with all kinds of embellishment added to ‘spice up’ the story. Definitely a reflection of our dramatic culture (surrounding birth at least). Yesterday my clients and I were able to listen to about 3 minutes of the 000 call and at no time was anyone terrified or screaming. Is birth really an emergency when it happens simply, even by the roadside. Yes, there are situations where complications arise and emergencies happen, I’m not talking about these instances. But of spontaneous onset of labour, being at home where women feel safe and comfortable and then following their own instincts as to when to leave for hospital. Actually, in this particular case, Aimee wasn’t even sure she WAS in established labour - there was no pattern to her surges, no visual signs her labour was intensifying. We are all different, our desires for birth are different, we ‘progress’ at different rates. Let’s support unique women as individuals and meet their needs as they arise - rather than trying to force them into a ‘box’ to make them fit a system - that often lets women and families down.Read More
I found Bron when I was half way through my pregnancy as a first time mum and was seeking her support for my partner at our birth and she gave him the confidence to go beyond what we ever imagined he would be involved in the birth of our baby girl and she supported me through the most powerful birthing experience I could ask for.Read More
I first met Caitlin and Mick for placenta encapsulation, I dropped off her capsules at their home only to be greeted by 2 gorgeous beagle boys! Having 2 beagles myself, I knew I had to photograph this beautiful family. I came back a couple of days later and hung out with them, capturing the space of curiosity, discovery and all the newness a baby brings.Read More
“Working with Bron from Kindred Birth has been an absolute pleasure. From the moment we met there was an instant connection and it felt like I was working with a dear friend. We had planned for photos straight after our Lotus style birth but due to complications needing my son to go to the special care unit we weren’t able to. Bron was so kind and understanding and worked with us to organise an alternative time to complete our photo shoot. Bron also took care of our Placenta encapsulation and we couldn’t be happier. I had my placenta encapsulated with my 3rd baby as I had heard from a friend that it helped settle the hormones after birth and eased the effects of the baby blues, which I had struggled with with my first and second births. After having really positive experience with it with my 3rd I knew I’d definitely do it with my 4th. Bron was there waiting when I got back to the maternity ward and I didn’t have to worry about a thing, she took care of everything and had it back to me in 2 days. She delivered my capsules to me in hospital, wrapped beautiful with my beautiful placenta prints. For me the capsules helped lessen my bleeding, bring my milk in and the biggest difference I felt was the emotional stability it gave me. I recommend encapsulation to everyone I speak to and can’t speak highly enough of the support it gives me in my 4th trimester. Thank you Bron for all you have given me and we so appreciate all the love and support that you’ve given in this lost special and precious time xx
It fills me with joy to follow a family from early pregnancy through to birth and postpartum. Kelly, Sam & big brother Otis invited me into their lives around 10 weeks into Kelly's pregnancy.Read More
Thank you Tenille & Alex for trusting me to care for you both as you prepared to meet this gorgeous little soul, Apollo. It has been an absolute pleasure to know you all!
If there are angels on earth she is defs one of them. Not only was she there in my pregnancy helping us prepare for birth, she was there holding me up with Alex during each surge, capturing those first raw precious moments (she is also a very talented photographer) & helping me have a shower after it was all over. She came back to hospital the next day to bring me her homemade lavender lips lip balm and belly support bands and we had a lovely reflection/debrief on how it went. But it didn't stop there..She came to visit at home and cooked me a delicious healthy dinner and desert! And then gave me a beautiful massage! She also brought me her special blend herbal salt bath. If that's not VIP treatment IDK what is. I feel so spoilt and I'm so grateful that she nurtured me so that I can nurture Apollo. If anyone is having a Bub I cannot recommend enough the benefits of having a doula as an extra support person! Thank you Bron.
